5 Apps an average Indian should have

Here is the list of 5 apps that I and most of my family members use. These apps are the official apps and are always there on my phone. So let’s start.

1. BHIM

BHIM App
BHIM App

This is a payments app. This works on the UPI platform and is official of National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). This is the first app that was launched on the UPI platform. To make it more clear the PhonePe and the Google Tez app (going to be renamed as Google Pay) work on the principle of UPI.

(UPI 2.0 launched with added features)

I trust BHIM more than any other app like PhonePe or Tez, as it is the official app, money is completely safe and transactions are done fast. I have experienced cases where my money has stuck and never came back. It is just my personal experience and not to influence yours.

However other apps like Tez and PhonePe do offer cashback or rewards. I have once received a reward for transacting on BHIM but nothing is fixed on it.

UPI method is exclusive and invented in India itself. UPI is a simple way of sending money. Like you send email using a virtual address or email id, UPI also has a virtual address and money is sent to that virtual address and directly into the bank account linked to that address.

2. TRUECALLER

Truecaller
Truecaller

Truecaller is the app, that you might be already using. It is the best and the top app to know who is calling you. In the world of spammers is it better to know beforehand and save your precious time, then picking up the phone and get annoyed.

When someone is calling you, Truecaller searches that number in their database and shows you the result. The result is shown to show on the calling screen in an overlay.

One thing that is a misconception among elder smartphone users is that every number is on Truecaller. They think that when a number is bought the person gives his ID proof to the operator, so the name will be on Truecaller.

That’s not it. Truecaller is a crowdsourced app, means it collects the information from the users. Users that have their name and number registered on the app, only that will be shown to other users as an ID. At the time of registration, you fill your phone and name which is now registered in their database. hen your name is shown to others when you call them and if your number is not saved in the person’s phone whom you are calling.

3. CAMSCANNER

CamScanner
CamScanner

The name gives hint about its function. You can scan documents through your phone and save them as pdf. Although several apps perform the same function, I have been using this app for quite some time.

This app provides a quick solution to the office needs for scanning a document or even a photo, and saves and shares them as a highly compressed photo or pdf.

(The Wallpapers app you need)

However, you won’t get the quality as high as a dedicated scanner but when you are in a hurry or the work don’t need any professionalism, then this will serve you just fine. This doesn’t mean the quality is bad, this depends on the camera of your phone, but most of the phone have decent cameras. So you won’t notice any major downgrade of quality if the area has proper lighting.

This is the app, you don’t know when you gonna need it. So it’s better to keep it ready.

4.  IRCTC

IRCTC
IRCTC

A large proportion of the Indian population uses trains every day. And if you travel through reserved class, then this is the app you need. This is the official app of Indian Railways for booking tickets.

You don’t need to go to the railway station and stand up in a queue. Enter the stations of your journey and date of travel, select the class of travel, add passengers who are traveling, then make payment.

While making the payment please choose the method by which no extra charges apply. It is super convenient. You also no need to print the ticket, to show to TTE. Show it in the app and you are done.

But the thing with the app is that if you want to book tatkal tickets, then it is better to go to the railway station. Because, when the tatkal window opens the app gets very slow and by the time you get the chance to book, you are in waiting.

This app is also for railway travelers. NTES stand for National Train Enquiry System and is also an official Indian railways app.

The previous was for to book tickets but this app has a host of features. If you just want to look for trains on some route, then this is the app you should use. Just fill in stations and it will show the train on various days of the week.

It also shows the canceled and diverted trains for a particular day. If you are on a station and don’t know about the train on you.r route and there is an option called live station, fill in your stations and you will know about the trains in the next 2, 4 or 8 hours.

The most used feature is to live track the train, that is in the top list of the app. You can also check a schedule of a particular train on this app.
