Sub-branding is growing on smartphone brands, and Xiaomi is no behind the group. Last year, Xiaomi launched a new sub-brand called the Poco by Xioami. Poco by Xiaomi focussed on producing only one phone which has flagship specs at a price never thought possible.
And quite early this year, they separated the Redmi Series and created a new sub-brand, called Redmi by Xiaomi. Redmi, as we all know, was the series of Xiaomi’s smartphone business which contains all the budget smartphones, all under ₹ 20,000. So, it was kind of expected that this sub-brand will also contain only budget smartphones. But that is not the case.
A piece of not so recent news indicated that Redmi is working on a smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, a flagship. So Redmi is not producing only budget phones. As we all know Xiaomi is not launching their Mi flagships in India, for a couple of years. But they have been launching Mi accessories and other gadgets, but not smartphones.
So it might happen that all the Mi branded phones might come in India as a Redmi By Xiaomi branded phone. So there is a chance that no Mi branded phone launch in India from now on. Neither Mi Mix was launched. So maybe Xiaomi has no plans to get the concept versions to India. Also, the Mi Android One phones may come under the Redmi brand for India or any other specific market.
Also according to the recent news, the Redmi Note 7 Pro may be priced at RMB 2,000 which equals ₹ 21,160. So Redmi is also expected to exceed its ₹ 20,000 budget mark. So it can happen that Xiaomi will completely wipe the Mi Brand in India and completely keep the Redmi sub-brand.
It will be also worth to see, how the Poco sub-brand will fit in. However, if we talk about Poco F2, it will come near this year’s end. If the Redmi crosses the ₹ 20k mark, then it will be difficult for both the Poco and Redmi on clashing products.
What do you think, can there indeed be some chance of this to happen? Do let me know.
I am mad about gadgets especially smartphones. I like to help people deciding their phone. I love talking about gadgets and also share whatever I know about them.
